Product Overview & Application

The Aqmos R2D2-48 water softener is a compact cabinet-style softening system designed to reduce water hardness in drinking and process water installations. It is suitable for households with typical limescale issues and is integrated into the home water system to reduce scale buildup in pipes, fixtures, and water-using appliances.

The R2D2-48 model is rated for households of 2–5 people and operates using ion exchange resin. With its closed cabinet housing, integrated salt tank, and BNT 1650 control valve, the system is designed for compact, automated operation in a domestic setting.

Technology & Features

The system consists of a fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) pressure vessel with ion exchange resin, a cabinet housing for the salt supply, and a volume-controlled central control valve type BNT 1650. Regeneration is triggered based on water volume and time-delayed, depending on water consumption and configured settings.

Features include an integrated fine blending valve, a brine suction assembly, and the connection to the central control valve. The residual hardness can be adjusted via the blending valve to ensure that not all water is fully softened before entering the home plumbing system.

System Integration & Compatibility

The Aqmos R2D2-48 is integrated into the drinking water installation and requires a suitable raw and drinking water connection, a power supply, and a wastewater connection for regeneration. The water connections are 1-inch male thread.

For safe operation, a household water filter upstream of the system and, if water pressure is too high, a pressure reducer are recommended. The system is designed for cold water up to a maximum of 30 °C and should be installed in a frost-free, dry, and moisture-protected location.

Installation

Installation takes place in the household water system after the water meter, water filter, and, if applicable, pressure reducer. Installation should be carried out by qualified installation personnel to ensure correct flow direction, secure connection to the household water network, wastewater connection, and electrical supply.

For installation, a suitable location, a 230 V power supply, a raw and drinking water connection, and a wastewater connection are required. The installation site must be level, dry, frost-free, and protected from moisture.

Notes

The system is intended for drinking water applications and serves to reduce water hardness by lowering calcium and magnesium levels. For operation, suitable regeneration salt according to DIN 19604 or DIN EN 973 Type A must be used.

The local raw water hardness should be checked before commissioning, and the system capacity should be adjusted accordingly. Regular functional checks by the operator and annual maintenance by a specialist company are recommended in the documentation.
